How Techonology Works??? The DVD…
What is a DVD?A DVD stands for Digital Versatile Disk or Digital Video Disk. On the Internet, its definition is, ‘an optical disk storage media format that can be used for data storage’. This means that it can store music, video, pictures and any other data in it and it will have very good sound quality. It is a better version of a CD as it is a bigger and faster CD that can hold more memory and has better quality of videos and audio music.
Capacity
12 cm single sided- 4.7 GB (single layer) 8.5 GB (dual layer)
12cm double sided-9.4GB (single layer) 17.1GB (dual layer)
8cm single sided-1.4 GB (single layer) 2.6GB (dual layer)
8cm double sided-2.8GB (single layer) 5.2GB (dual layer)
Where would you find a DVD? You can find a DVD in any electronic store in all parts of the world!!! If you want an empty DVD to burn stuff on, you can get it in electronic stores, but if you want a DVD that already has a movie (or any other data on it), you can get that in any normal movie/video stores and music shops too!
Do I own a DVD?Yes I own a DVD. It is very useful for watching movies on as movies take up lots of space and a DVD can hold a lot of memory. A DVD also has better quality for videos and music so I use it to listen to music or watch movies using it. Most of the movies that I buy are on DVD’s. I don’t really like to watch movies on VCD’s, as its quality isn’t as good.
What are the main uses of a DVD?A DVD is used for music, video and other data storage. It is very good as it stores a lot of data and you can put so much memory (data) on it. Most of the time, the DVD is used to store videos but you can also use it for music and other data storage.
Are there any other uses of the DVD that I can think of? I can’t think of more uses of the DVD because to what I have learnt about the DVD, it is used to save music, videos, and other data;it is used to watch movies too…I am not to sure of other uses for it
Do I think that the DVD will be used 10 years from now or do I think that it will be replaced with something better? I think that 10 years from now, the DVD will not be used as much as it does today. This is because, technology is getting better everyday and 10 years from now, technology will be so good that a DVD will not be good compared to the future technology. Just like a floppy disk is compared to DVD (the floppy disk is nothing compared to a DVD), I think the DVD will be like the floppy disk and compared to the latest technology, it will be nothing.

Technology is used in education in so many different ways! It used used for research for projects, it is used for typing up the work we have written, it is used for pictures, it is used for graphs, and you can even play games and have fun using technology!
Question #2 - How do you personally use technology in aiding your learning at NJIS (during school, homework, etc)?
I use technology alot for homework…It helps me in projects, typing up assignments, and through technology, I even made a short movie once as a science project!
Question #3 – Does technology improve your education or create more complexity (therefore becoming a negative aspect)?
Technology definitely improves my education because if I don’t understand stuff, I just have to look it up in the Internet and i get the answers!
Hey Everybody!
Hi Everyone! My name is Ashwinii Chandiramani and I am a 13 year-old girl who studies at NJIS ( North Jakarta International School)! I love it here at NJIS as this school is like one big happy family. At school, I like all the subjects as they are all fun and every teacher in every class always makes NJIS a good place to be in.
I love playing many different sports such as basketball, soccer, swimming, volleyball, badminton, tennis, and touch rugby. Besides that, I like to watch T.V and join contests online, play on the computer, play my PSP, play musical instruments such as violin, piano, keyboard, harmonica, recorder, clarinet, a few percussion instruments, dance-(modern and traditional dances), and I like to read!
